about

The full-band sound on Devils & Ghosts – a two-song follow up to The Local Strangers' self-titled EP – effectively captures the energy and passion of a live show. In “Devil and a Stiff Drink,” scalding electric guitar matches the intensity of Aubrey Zoli’s commanding vocals. “Give Up the Ghost” balances a tender acoustic introduction with a powerful band entrance that hits like a tidal wave. The interplay between Matt Hart’s acoustic guitar and Zoli’s touching melodies is where The Local Strangers began. The additions of piano, slide guitar, upright bass, and booming drums bring even more emotion and depth to the experience.

The Devil dressed up, as a man,
He took my body; he took my hand
And he led me to the point of no salvation

He spoke so sweet, he poured the wine;
We danced to thunder breaking over as our bodies intertwined
And I woke up in his dark imagination

But these flames, feel like home to me,
With fire coursing through my veins I think I finally see
That with the Devil my heart is meant to be

I don’t need no savior, don’t wanna be saved,
Don’t need no holy roller telling me just how I gotta behave
Just give me my Devil and a good stiff drink

I’ll take your convictions, I’ll take your truths,
I’ll take your black lies covered in red tape and I’ll throw them back at you
So don’t you bother telling me how to think

Cuz these flames, feel like home to me,
With fire coursing through my veins I think I finally see
That with the Devil my heart is meant to be

But these flames, feel like home to me,
I have never felt so free
Don’t take this away from me
Cuz with fire coursing through my veins I think I finally see
That with the Devil my heart is meant to be

Just gimme my Devil
Just give me my Devil and a good stiff drink.

Take all your stories, your cigarettes and go
I have no use for them anymore
You said what you needed, now be on your way
No sense making small talk when you don’t plan to stay

Drift on and away
Drift on and away

I’ll pick up the pieces and put down the knife
I only need good things in my life
I’m choosing my battles and this one I’ve lost
So much for love no matter the cost

I drift on and away
Drift on and away

You expected me to always be the one in need
so you could feel better
And through all your rage, I’d always say that it would change
if we stayed together
But it never works, it’s always worse
and we end up hating each other

Oh I drift on and away
I drift on and away
I drift on and away
I drift on and away

I give up this demon, I give up this ghost
No longer will you be the one I love most
